Staff Profiles

John Hartmann

CT06-45-EEOB-John-After-Treatment-FlagsJohn is a practicing professional art conservator with over 30 years’ experience. He is the President of Hartmann Fine Art Conservation Services, Inc.   He received his Master of Arts Degree in Art Conservation from the State University of New York’s Cooperstown Program in 1982.   He is a Fellow member of the American Institute for Conservation of Artistic and Historic Works.    He previously worked as a paintings conservator at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Detroit Institute of Arts.   He held the position of Chief of Conservation for the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission’s Commonwealth Conservation Center for 20 years managing a staff of conservators who provided conservation for 60 historic sites and museums, and the state archives.

As a conservator he is an expert in the treatment of paintings, but has a broad working knowledge of many other disciplines of art conservation as well.   He has worked on large on-site government or institutional projects as well as for museums and private collections.   He has managed or been part of many multi-discipline conservation and historic preservation projects.    He is capable of working on the most difficult of conservation treatments.    John continues to share his knowledge of conservation through lectures or on-site training of students, museum professionals or the public.

Eric Yoho

Eric-cleaning-paintingAs one of the first employees of Hartmann Conservation, Eric brings to our company a broad background in archival framing and repair, decorative and fine arts painting, organization and conservation.   Although apprentice trained in conservation, he is a valuable cornerstone of our staff.    He primarily works on frame and painting conservation, but has worked on many large on-site conservation projects for churches, theaters and government facilities as well.  He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pennsylvania State University’s College of Arts and Architecture.  He is an active painter and has exhibited his works in many galleries.

William Winters

William-cleaning-detailWilliam has worked for us for over 6 years as a conservation technician.  He works with staff on all facets of treatment, packing and transportation of artwork.    He does most of our facilities documentary treatment photography, treats small decorative artifacts, and works on gilded frames.   He has participated in numerous projects where he has conserved murals, restored decorative painted surfaces, cleaned sculptures and surveyed artwork.  He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania and is an active graphic artist.

Martha Freeman Glass

DSC_0199Martha has just recently joined our staff as a part-time employee.    She will be augmenting our Conservation Technician Staff and will also be responsible for computer database design and marketing initiatives.   She will be working with in-house conservation projects and large off-site contracted projects.  She brings over twenty years of illustrative and computer graphic design work for the Craft Industry to our business.   She is extremely organized, detail oriented and a superlative artist.   She has supervised and trained personnel and is proficient in many computer programs including MAC Creative Suite, Photoshop, and FileMaker Pro.   She has a BFA in Communications Design (Graphic & Advertising Art) from Kutztown University.

Administrative/Clerical

We have a full time Administrative Assistant and a Part-Time Bookkeeper.

Part-Time Staff

Additional part-time conservation technicians, conservators, decorative painters or skilled tradesmen are added as needed for larger projects. We also have a good working relationship with many adjunct services including historic preservation architects, construction and emergency services companies, quantitative and qualitative analysis firms, fine art appraisers and museum professionals. We frequently form joint ventures to handle the largest and most complex conservation projects.
